This is such a stunning piece of glass art. I really had a hard time trying to take pictures. The fishes’ skin is incredible.

I was afraid I would get fussed at for smudging the glass. I didn’t. but, it was close.

Fish eyes aren’t particularly engaging. But, the skin is perfect. (Clearly it’s one of the not-very-scaly kind.)

This is very small.

So, I found the huge frame puzzling. (I’ve been noticing frames more in the last couple of years after a conversation with a friend about them.)

Makes me think of Tevye from Fiddler on the Roof. I don’t think that’s coincidental.

My cousin is a big fan so I texted the picture to him while I was there.

Last Fall, the Columbia Museum of Art in Columbia, SC had an exhibition of some of the French Moderns. I saw “Matisse” in the description and (of course) I wanted to see it. Columbia is about a 3 hours drive from me and that’s usually longer than I want to go for a day trip. But, I could stop off overnight on the way home to see my kid. So, I packed a bag and headed south.
It was a good exhibition and I’m glad I went. However, I found the museum’s permanent collection more interesting that the special one. I feel that I can show you some of what I saw there without risking the income of any of the artists.

When I was 11, I got to spend extra time with my dad during school breaks because I was “too old for day care and too young to be left by myself all day.” On the way to the NCSU campus where he was finishing up his PhD, we passed a Wonder Bread factory. It was heavenly and that is a very physical memory for me. I remember the chill of the Fall air, the heater from the car blowing on my face and that scent! And I got bonus time with my dad, who was my favorite person in the world.
