I went out to take a picture of all my day lilies and found this.
We’ve been leaving that redbud alone to add some shade to the back yard.
There are more that I haven’t pulled So, we aren’t bereft of redbuds. And they’re hard to get up once they’re established. So, not spotting them when they’re small is detrimental to tree control.
This evidence of a temper tantrum made me laugh.
I love this new deer spray.
Otherwise, we wouldn’t have these.
And, in case you need to know …
I ordered a pair of crinum lily bulbs in January. The order got misplaced and they didn’t get sent until I inquired about them. They were very apologetic and my bulbs arrived yesterday. (I am taking a break from putting them in the ground.)
Crimums are slow growers. But, they eventually get tall. They are deer and rabbit resistant according to Plant Delights Nursery. And they are scented.
Also? These bulbs are huge!
One down.
But this ginkgo is not giving up.
This is going to be a Before picture. I’m curious to see how long it takes to come back.
And.
Notice the rice paper bush behind it? It’ll look like that all summer.
And wish for a taste for venison
Above is a ‘Merlot’ redbud that I bought in June, 2021. It’s supposed to have purple, heart-shaped leaves. Deer have nibbled the new growth so often that it is no taller now than it was when I planted it. I’m not sure it isn’t dead. There are no flowers on it and the growth tips are all gone.
My lilies have barely started out of the ground and they’ve already been cropped down.
And they’ve decided to use the ginkgo in the front yard as a scratching post. I guess. Or they’re eating the bark.
Chuck ordered some deer spray that says it doesn’t wash off. So, we shouldn’t have to reapply every time it rains. I hope it works.
