Hives

I drove to Julian, NC on Saturday and picked up our two top bar hives from Bill at The Garden Hive.

I had shopped around and liked the idea of buying from a local builder and we didn’t have to pay shipping costs. I considered building my own, but my carpentry skills are quite limited, as are my tools.

We are in the minority in our area as far a preferring the top bar versus the traditional Langstroth hive. We are looking for pollination with a little bonus honey for ourselves and family down the road.

Our two bee packages are coming in March or April. We are excited.

    Chuck,
    These are beautiful. Hope you have good luck with them. Have you a set up for feeding your new bees with these hives? My thought is you could set in an improvised feeder box from the side door, to keep the bees from drowning you could set in some hardware cloth for them to walk on.

    They came with a feeder that he designed that works inside at the end of the hive. It’s pretty simple. It uses a one quart mason jar. Looks like it should work.

    Hey guys,

    These look great! I have tools and know how and I’d think of buying some!

    Since we are in a limited TBH area could you post a few more picks of the inside feeder and maybe the bottom of the stand so folks can see how easy it is to use? Didn’t you say it has a IPM board built in?

    Can’t wait……i know you are SO excited! Are ya gonna host a package party?
